Thank you to those individuals and organizations who have supported our Adopt A Match Program in 2018!
The Need Is Now
Bozeman’s growth combined with the Baby Boomer Generation continuing to reach retirement age puts Bozeman’s senior population (ages 65 and over) at 11.9 percent of the area’s population, totaling over 12,400 individuals (Census Data, 2016). Add to this the fact that research is clearly demonstrating that elderly people who spend regular social time with companions are happier, have a better quality of life, live longer, and have a decreased chance of developing dementia and Alzheimer’s and you find the true value of Befrienders!
Our Program Is Designed To Help
Our Adopt-a-Match program is designed to help. Your donation of $500 will support a senior match for a year and help build our capacity, so more Befrienders’ relationships can be formed.
Befrienders is the only organization in the Gallatin Valley that is currently offering senior companionship services free of charge. Our “matches” pair elderly citizens, in need of companionship, with community volunteers. Our organization supports these matches with screening, training, outreach, and continuing support. We take pride in being incredibly efficient (as well as compassionate) and are able to manage these matches for an annual cost of approximately $500 per match (compared with approximately $3,000 per year for similar services through a for-profit company).
Seniors Are Waiting
Because of the growth and aging in Gallatin Valley the need for Befrienders’ services is growing beyond our capacity to deliver. In fact, we currently have two matches waiting for every one we can make. We need funding, staffing, and volunteers to meet the growing need of our senior community.
If providing support and companionship for a senior is something you believe is important – make a tax-deductible gift of $500 today (or feel free to give what you can or sponsor multiple matches)!
