If so, we have the volunteer experience for you!
Befriender Volunteer Application Process
2. Background Check
A suggested donation of $15 is asked to help cover each volunteer’s background check.
After a successful background check is conducted, Befrienders will contact the two references provided on your application.
4. Required Training
Each volunteer is then invited to attend a required 2-hour evening volunteer training that is offered once a month. If this time doesn’t work, let us know and we can try to meet individually. This training is used to both train the volunteer and collect information on the volunteer to help in our match process.
5. Matching Process
There is no guarantee how long this process will take. It is important to remember that volunteers are matched with seniors based on their interests and needs, not a first-come, first-serve basis. Some volunteers are matched up within a week of joining the program, others may wait many months for an appropriate match.
6. First Meeting
When meeting your senior for the first time, a Befrienders staff person will join you. Our staff will be there to make the introduction, provide contact information to one another, and ensure your next meeting is scheduled prior to leaving
